The Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay is located right smack at one of the most happening places in Singapore. Towering right next to Liang Court and a few steps from a number of well-known bars and clubs, the hotel is a convenient option whether or not you’re opting to dig into Singapore’s nightlife scene. That being said, Novotel has traditionally been the most business-oriented among Accor’s hotel brands and this property likewise has plenty of meeting facilities for the business traveler – including one inside the club lounge. For convenience, eligible guests at this property are also able to skip queues by checking-out online.
I recently stayed at one of the Superior Rooms in Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay. As the hotel was built sometime back, I was delighted to find such a generous allocation of space. There was a considerable width between the TV and the bed (enough space to do a cartwheel or two!). Aside from this, my room also came with a balcony – the door of which you could ask to be unlocked by contacting the housekeeping staff.
The room imbibed warm tones with a timeless and highly contemporary look. The interiors were dominated by a rather inviting shade of beige and a minimalistic but functional set of furnishings. If you have stayed at Novotel properties elsewhere, you will find the décor here to be very familiar.
What I particularly liked about the room was that there’s plenty of lighting options available. I like my rooms bright – and I could count at least 4 lamps, a ceiling light, one by the foyer and also one by the minibar. These can be adjusted via a controller by the bedside.
The bathroom was equally spacious with a bathtub and separate shower area which has a rain shower head. Toiletries were from the in-house brand that uses fair-trade materials as ingredients.
I noted that the bathtub came with its own shower head so it’s entirely possible to shower here instead if you prefer somewhere more open. Do note that the glass divider only spans the sink so there may be a tendency to splash water all over the floor if you shower here.
My stay came with breakfast which is served in the all-day dining restaurant, The Square. I anticipated a crowd as I was staying in the hotel during a weekend so I dropped by at around 8 in the morning to find a number of guests already having their morning meal. It was still easy to find a table at this time, which was just nice as I spotted a queue forming not long after!
The breakfast spread at The Square was quite generous and definitely one of the most diverse for a hotel if its class. Aside from your typical toast, bacon and eggs; there was a sizeable Indian section and some Chinese items. The most notable thing about the breakfast however was the presence of an Indonesian section – certainly something I have not seen in any other hotel in Singapore. I had my scrambled eggs and bacon with some Bakso (Indonesian meatball soup).
The property is pretty much a full-service hotel with a club lounge at the top-most floor, swimming pool, gym and function rooms for weddings and other celebrations. While I did not get to have access at the club lounge, I’ve heard good things about the panoramic views that guests can have from up there so I requested for access just to take in the amazing view.
The gym was modest and contained a basic set of exercise equipment. The important thing is that there’s plenty of cardio exercise machines (i.e. treadmills) for quick workouts. It is located at the same floor as the pool which overlooks the Clarke Quay area.
Verdict
A good all-around option for a hotel that’s near many strategic locations in Singapore, the Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay is a hotel to consider if you like your rooms big while still paying not more than a mid-range price.
I recently discovered a new website called Saleduck offering coupon codes to tons of hotels including this one. If you obtain their coupon code for Expedia for instance, you are entitled to as much as 8% discount on hotel bookings. Check them out here.
