Temples are generally spread out in a large area therefore at least a bicycle is needed to get from one to the other. Most visitors never manage to see all the temples including yourself. And in my opinion, some of the best ones are the ones hard to get to.
I’ve not been to Ayuthaya yet but I’ve been told it is very busy with crowds which I assume is a result of its proximity to BKK. Good news is that Sukhotai is very peaceful, and the other two are hardly ever visited by foreigners (big mistake). I wasn’t expecting much from Si Satchanalai but I was left speechless at what I saw – the site was almost as good as Sukhotai itself and pretty much have the temples to yourself. Some are so remote that you have to watch where you going – you could step on a snake.

I visited Ayutthaya by tour bus several years ago from Bangkok. This summer I’m going to take the bus from Chiang Mai to Sukhothai. Thanks for your tips.

Yes the elephant temple is called Wat Sorasak. You can easily go to this temple. Just ask the tuktuk driver to take you to Wat Sorasak. Enjoy!

I saw some photos of it. How do I get to see these elephant statues and is there an explanation for building it. Thanks.
