I was in Lviv when it was still a Soviet city (’70’s). It was beautiful then too, but the language spoken was Russian….difficult to accept for a Ukrainian. I was tickled by your comment about needing to buy a ticket to see the Opera House. At about 10 PM my sister and I were strolling the street near the Opera. It was a warm night and the door to the building was ajar. We went in and had a look. It was beautiful but we didn’t stay long. Though there wasn’t a soul there, we had no trust in the authorities and didn’t want to get into trouble. I am happy we entered uninvited!
