Cassia at Capella Singapore: Weekend Dimsum Brunch

I have written before that the Capella Singapore is my favorite resort in the country. I love the quiet and relaxing feeling I get each time I come here. It is by no means the most secluded among the accommodation options in Sentosa but its low-density setup certainly creates an exclusive air.

While I have stayed at Capella a couple of times, I had not yet tried its Cantonese restaurant, Cassia. Even if you’re not staying at Capella, it’s worthwhile to check out the food here. Great dishes aside, there’s probably few other Chinese restaurants in Singapore that allow you to look out to majestic greenery in an alfresco setting. Cassia is known for its famous seafood claypot (more on that later!).

During this particular occasion, I tried their Weekend Dimsum Brunch which goes for $59++. Most Chinese restaurants in Singapore roll out dimsum brunches over the weekends and Cassia’s is priced somewhere in the middle. The format is as a hearty 5-course set menu with a serving of their signature drink, cold hawthorn tea.

Dimsum

The first course was a selection of six dimsum items (out of a total of 12 in the menu) which I was asked to choose from. This selection included your usual siu mai, har gau and pork buns but Cassia’s menu changes from time to time. Of the dimsum items I chose, I particularly loved the Steamed Crystal Dumplings which came with a prominent truffle flavor. The Crispy Prawn Dumpling was also memorable for its satisfying crunch and plump piece of prawn within the filling.

Soup

The second course was the soup which alternates depending on the week. During my visit, I had the Double Boiled Spareribs Soup with Ginseng, Chinese Yam and Wolfberry. It was a highly nourishing option – perfect during that rainy afternoon I was there.

Trilogy Platter

This was followed by the Trilogy Platter, named as such due to the selection of three roasted items served for this course. I had the Crabmeat Salad Roll, Crispy Chilean Seabass and Five Spice Roasted Australian Yorkshire Pork Belly. Among the three, I particularly liked the pork belly for its crispy skin. The sinful layers of fat beneath the skin was also too tempting to ignore.

Rice and Noodles  

We also had a carbohydrate dish towards the end. Be prepared though as the serving is rather huge. I chose to have the Braised Wok-Fried Hor Fun with Beef and Egg which came with a distinct wok hei flavor. The beef was well-cooked and tender and brimming with sauce – just the way I like it.

Dessert

For the sweet ending, I picked a rather tall glass of Chilled Homemade Passion Fruit Cream with Lychee Sorbet. The cream came sour just like how good passion fruit should be and provided for a good counterpoint to the sweet lychee sorbet.

The weekend dimsum brunch at Cassia is available every Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm to 2pm for $59++ per person.

During my brunch at Cassia, I also tried their famous Seafood Claypot ($138++). Good enough for two people, my claypot came with copious amounts of seafood – scallops, lobsters and even two pieces of abalone. The broth was sweet and oh-so additcting that I couldn’t help but request for a refill! One serving of the seafood claypot also comes with either two cups of rice or vermicelli so this by itself is also good enough for a meal for 2.

Like Chef’s Table downstairs, Cassia is a fantastic place to while a weekend afternoon away. I hope to be back soon!
